Meet the Hood Family Children at Mountain Valley View Farm

Brianne Kristina Hood KothariBrianne Kristina Hood KothariBrianne Kristina is our eldest daughter and full of beauty and grace.  She is our kind vegetarian.  When she was younger, Brianne was a wonderful Icelandic horse competitor and trainer.  She competed and medaled in the United States, Canada, and Iceland.

Brianne married Moulik Kothari on May 30, 2009.  They now reside in Portland, Oregon.  Moulik works in computer technology and programming.  He moved from India to the U.S. about nine years ago.  Brianne finished her PhD dissertation for social work, “Differential Parenting,” in early 2011 and walked in graduation June 12, 2011.  She plans to work in the area of child abuse and neglect to help find possible solutions and intervention to prevent child maltreatment.

Marissa Kimberly Hood

Marissa Kimberly — Marissa Kimberly was a competitive rider in Icelandic horse events.  She competed in the United States, Canada, and Iceland, and has many ribbons and medals to show for it.  She also used to do a great deal of farrier work.

After receiving her MBA, Marissa continues working full time as Office Manager of the dental office.  She is an avid skier.  Marissa also continues to cater through her side business “Big Cakes & Little Parties.”

Paul and Janelle Turcotte

Janelle Karina Hood Turcotte — Janelle Karina Hood Turcotte has ridden and competed and medaled in the United States, Canada, and Iceland in Icelandic horse events, and was a great competitor.

Janelle married Paul Joseph Turcotte on May 12, 2006.  Janelle teaches math and science at the junior high level at Assumption Parish School.  This summer (2011), she is teaching at Gonzaga Prep.  Paul continues to work as a firefighter in the Spokane Valley and really enjoys it.  In the last couple of years they have landscaped, irrigated, and fenced their yard and it looks great.  Janelle calls it “a work in progress.”  They are both active in sports and play Hoopfest every year (world’s largest 3x3 basketball tournament), as well as running in Spokane’s Bloomsday run.

Mikayla Karlene Hood

Mikayla Karlene — Mikayla Karlene rode and competed in Icelandic horse events as a young girl.  Mikayla works as a dental assistant at the dental office.  She completed the Nursing Assistant Program in November 2009.  She is active in church choir, cooking, and of course, kid transport.  She has resumed her voice lessons and sings at Mass, as well as for funerals and weddings.

Kyler James Hood

Kyler James — Kyler James rode horses and worked on some beginning training of the Icelandic horses we had.  Kyler graduated from Gonzaga, completed his MFA program for Creative Writing at the California College of Arts, and graduated May 14, 2011.  He thoroughly enjoyed San Francisco. He has really developed a passion for photography, alongside his desire to travel.

Kelsey Katrina Hood

Kelsey Katrina — Kelsey Katrina recently completed sophomore year at Gonzaga University.  She thoroughly enjoys the college life.  She also loves going to the GU basketball games.  She is glad to have survived Genetics and looks forward to her junior year.

Corbin Joel Hood

Corbin Joel — Corbin Joel is a senior this year (2011) at Central Valley High School.  He loves basketball, soccer, swimming, jumping on the trampoline, and has been the one that has helped with the landscaping.  He enjoyed his broadcasting class where he showed his creativity.  Recently, he has been putting together music pieces with a techno edge and has some of his original songs on a CD.  He hopes to make a number of songs, which he is still working on.  He will be a 5th year senior at Central Valley next year for one semester.

Caleb Jerome Hood

Caleb Jerome — Caleb Jerome is a junior at Gonzaga Preparatory School.  He is growing, quickly surpassing other family members in height.  It looks like he will be tall like his brother Kyler.  He recently went to senior prom and really enjoyed getting dressed up and going out.

Keisha Kalani Hiwot HoodKeisha Kalani Hiwot — Keisha Kalani just finished her freshman year at Gonzaga Prep with all A’s.  It has now been almost 3 years since her adoption from Ethiopia.  She still continues to speak with Kianna in Amharic to retain her native language.  Her favorite food consists of all types of chocolate desserts, and she loves baking them.  She continually has a big smile for everyone she meets.  Keisha is always active, whether it be participating in two sports every season, figuring out homework, singing in the choir, or jogging in the neighborhood.  She is a well-focused worker.

Devontay Joshua Hood

Devontay Joshua — Devontay Joshua finished his freshman year at Central Valley High School.  Devontay enjoys reading mythical books, which we encourage.  He especially loves computers, video games, cell phones, and being with friends when he has the chance.  Devontay can be a real handful, but can work well when directed.

Kianna Karielle Selam HoodKianna Karielle Selam — Kianna Karielle just finished 8th grade at St. Mary’s and has been accepted at Gonzaga Prep School.  She loves soccer and going to the fitness center.  Like Keisha, she is very organized and is always reliable in completing daily chores.  She loves to be in the kitchen and is a very meticulous chopper.  She has a great sense of humor and is constantly laughing at someone’s joke.  Like Marissa, Kianna can cook most anything and can prepare a complete meal without directions.

Rosy Kiara Hood

Rosy Kiara — Rosy Kiara completed 6th grade at Seventh Day Adventist School.  We are pleased with the optimistic attitude of all her teachers.  She still enjoys cooking, and has a lot of patience in the kitchen.  She never minds testing recipes for mom’s upcoming cookbooks.  She is a little disappointed that she cannot swim year round, but would not change our winter weather.  She will probably grow fins with the time she spends in the pool.  Rosy is very rambunctious, but loves to laugh.

Mercedes Katherine HoodMercedes Katherine — Mercedes Katherine also graduated 6th grade at Seventh Day Adventist School and really enjoyed it.  In her free time, she grabs a book and when she finishes it, she gets very excited to tell everyone all about it.  She has a very gentle nature toward pets.  She enjoys eating any of mom’s test recipes.  She is very sweet and can be very helpful.

Jasmine Khalia Wengel HoodJasmine Khalia Wengel — Jasmine Khalia also graduated from Seventh Day Adventist School but from 5th grade.  She likes to make jokes, but when around those with whom she is not completely comfortable, she is still very shy.  She is a very good girl, but definitely a little prankster.  Being the youngest of the three girls from Ethiopia, she has picked up English the quickest and is very witty.  Her favorite sport is soccer, and she loves every chance she gets for practice.  She is also a technology nut and loves cell phones, computers, and anything electronic.

Cheyenne Krystal HoodCheyenne Krystal — Cheyenne Krystal was a 5th grader at St. John Vianney School this year.  She has high energy and can be very helpful delivering things, when in the mood.  Every chance she gets to spend with our horses, goats, and chickens she takes full advantage.  She has a natural ability with all animals and does not scare easily, like some of her sisters, when the animals get spooked.  Cheyenne is our cowgirl but most definitely a girly-girl as well, always loving to wear skirts, tights, and put bows in her hair.  She has boundless energy and needs to keep focused with all that spirit.

Anna Kaylee

Anna Kaylee — Although the youngest, Anna Kaylee is the tallest of the five youngest girls.  She is very active and if it gets too quiet, it is nice to find out where Cheyenne and Anna are.
